September 2007    It has come to the attention of the Hacienda (tax office) in Spain that companies and individuals that offer similar services to ourselves, are attempting to defraud both the Spanish tax authorities and their clients by not declaring the appropriate amount of taxes to be paid on vehicles whether for importation or transfer. The ramifications of this practice are laying the clients open to the possibility of having to pay the outstanding taxes and a hefty fine and possible prosecution. To safeguard yourselves ALWAYS receive at least two written quotations ensuring that they detail the tax payable (our company offer this as standard practice). If you are in any doubt as to the amount that should be payable, ask to see the Valores para vehiculos de turismo 2007(table of valuations for vehicles from the Hacienda). Any reputable company should have this list available or have a direct online link to the Hacienda.

JANUARY 2008    As of 1 January 2008, the laws regarding the reregistration of vehicles changed. there are now 4 different tax brackets as opposed to two. These tax brackets are based on the emission levels of the vehicle and are 0%, 4.75%, 9.75 and 14.75% of the current value of the vehicle. Therefore good news for the owners of smaller, newer vehicles but not so good news for the owners of larger4x4 , MPV and older type vehicles. There was also a change in the length of time you can have signed on the Padron at your local Town Hall. This was increased from 30 days to 60 days, therefore if you have signed on the Padron in the last 60 days you can negate the emissions tax by obtaining a certificate from the British Consulate for 170€.
