Why do I need to re-register my foreign plated car?
In accordance with Spanish Law, if the vehicle is going to be in Spain for more than 183 days of any given year, then it is necessary to reregister onto Spanish plates. Also, if is it your intention to make Spain your main place of residence then again it would obligatory to reregister the vehicle to Spanish plates.

Will my vehicle need to have the headlights changed?
If your vehicle is Right hand drive then in most cases yes, the headlights or in some cases just the lenses have to be replaced. We always advise our clients to refer to the handbook for the vehicle and check under continental driving/headlights for more information. If you are in any doubt, we would be pleased to check your headlights at our office, free of charge.
If you have a left hand drive vehicle, then it is more than likely the headlights do not need to be replaced. Again, if in doubt, we would check them for you at our office free of charge. It is no longer possible to import a car with only headlamp deflecters fitted.
If headlights are required, we can get a competitive quote for you. Because of the amount of headlights we order, we receive a substantial discount on the cost of the headlights, which we pass onto the customer.

Will I have to pay registration tax (sometimes wrongly called import tax)?
There was a change in the Spanish law on 1st May 2006 regarding the Registration tax on all foreign plated vehicles. The Spanish Tax office now regard anyone who has signed on the Padron at their Local Town Hall for more than 30 days as resident. Therefore registration tax would be applicable. If you have never signed on the Padron then it may be possible to avoid the Registration tax by visiting the British Consulate to obtain an exemption certificate. If this is necessary, one of our staff will accompany you to the British Consualte and complete the paperwork.

I am not resident in Spain, Do I need to reregister my car?
You do not have to be resident in Spain. If the vehicle is going to be in Spain for more than 183 days of any year then it is necessary to change the plates.

How long does the reregistration process take and will I be without my car?
The reregistration process is normally complete within 5 working days. We do not take the car off you, unless if you would prefer for one of our staff to collect your vehicle from your home to take to the engineer and the ITV station. This normally takes only 4 hours and we would then return the vehicle back to your home. (conditions apply i.e. Insurance and distance.) Please contact the office for more details.

My mot and tax are about to expire, what should I do?
(add link to DVLA web site)
If you are going to be in Spain when your MOT expires, then it is advisable to get your vehicle MOT'd Before you leave the UK. Otherwise you would have to return to the UK for the test to be carried out on the vehicle.
The only other option is to have your vehicle reregistered onto Spanish plates to stay within the law.

Can I transfer my rhd van to Spanish plates?
Generally no, but it all depends on the amount of visibility available to the driver of the vehicle and the classification of the vehicle. We have previously reregistrered several Right hand drive Mercedes Vito minibuses and also several Berlingo vans. It would be better to contact our office and speak more thoroughly as more details would be required.

How much does it cost to reregister my vehicle? (link get a quote)
The price of reregistration varies depending on the price of headlights, road tax, and whether registration tax is applicable or exemption certificate from the British Consulate would be required. As our office is a recognised legal business in Spain and whose main concerns are in the vehicle/driving areas we have been granted a direct processing link for the Hacienda (tax office)thereby making it possible to obtain an accurate and instant valuation of your vehicle for tax purposes and the amount of registration tax payable (if applicable).
